Leader as Coach - CASE STUDY

A geographically diverse funds management firm were seeking solutions to implement cost effective coach training for managers.

Issue: The Problem

A geographically diverse funds management firm were seeking solutions to implement cost effective coach training for managers.

Ideas: Our Thinking

The relationship with a direct manager influences motivation and development. Consequently, we recognised leaders as the critical link in an effective solution.

To work with budget constraints and geographical spread we proposed a train the trainer model.

Innovation: What We Did

We built a two-tiered training process. First, we built and implemented a tailored training program to up-skill senior managers in facilitation skills. We then developed a ‘Coaching Skills for Managers’ training curriculum. Delivery of the curriculum was supported by peer reflection and ongoing coaching and observations sessions.

Impact: The effect

The program assisted in

  • managers’ capacity to effectively facilitate training
  • understanding of workplace coaching methodologies
  • increasing confidence to facilitate one to one performance conversations
  • increasing the frequency of feedback delivered to staff across the organisation

We recognised leaders as the critical link in an effective solution.
